A femboy is a young male (usually below thirty) whose appearance and mannerisms are considered stereotypically feminine. Cultural norms dictate masculinity and femininity and these shift over time. In the 17th century, it was considered okay for men to dress extravagantly. Men could wear flowing robes but doing that outside the house today is frowned upon. People would take you for a cosplayer.
Currently, the prevailing social norms dictate that men should be sober in both manner and dress. Women are allowed to be more flamboyant except in ultraconservative hyper-religious societies.
Femboys should not be confused with crossdressers or ladyboys. A crossdresser is just a man who wears female clothing while a ladyboy is a term mainly used to refer to transexuals in Thailand. There are many who find the ladyboy offensive so use it with caution. There is still some debate on whether or not the term femboy is a slur, but for now, it’s still kosher.
Being a femboy is more of an aesthetic than a strict standard. Some cross-dress, others don’t. Some femboys fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella and there are others who are straight. Gender identity follows a similar split. Femboys share a few general characteristics:
- Biologically male
- Young (late teens to early thirties. Probably because femman or femgeezer don’t quite roll off the tongue.)
- Stereotypically feminine (long hair, female dress, makeup, feminine mannerisms, etc)

Can anyone be a femboy?
Yes and no. The stereotypical femboy is an androgynous slender young male in his late teens or early twenties. Such femboys obviously have genetic advantages that make it easier for them but there is nothing stopping you from rocking the aesthetic if you so wished.
It will just take some work. Unless you’re 90 years old or a 300-pound muscle-bound giant with a baritone so deep it’s practically a roar. The definition might get more inclusive in the future but it’s currently a tad restrictive.
How to enhance your femboy appearance
By enhancing we will be gunning for the stereotypical femboy look: slim and androgynous.
Step 1: Get rid of your whiskers
The first thing you’ve got to do is get rid of all your facial hair. Beards are a sign of male virility and aggression. And you have to make sure you get a smooth shave. A bumpy cheek from a shave ruins the look. Arm, leg, and chest hair has to go too.
Step 2: Dress in more feminine clothing
You don’t need to put on dresses and skirts to give your clothes a more feminine vibe. Men tend to go for baggier loose-fitting clothes while women generally prefer tighter figure-hugging outfits.
Therefore, the first step should be getting close-fitting shirts and pants. You can also jazz up the color palette by deviating from the drab blacks, greys, and blues into the pink and floral territories.
Once you’re confident enough, you can rock all the mini skirts and crop tops your heart desires. However, if your frame is on the larger side, maintain a loose fit. Figure-hugging clothing may not be very flattering on a bigger frame.
Step 3: Adopt feminine mannerisms
Dressing like a woman is not enough. You need to act like one. First, close your legs when you sit down. Or at least keep them together. Men tend to spread their legs because they don’t have to worry about anyone looking up their skirts. Women do.
You can also start speaking with a higher-pitched voice and using makeup. Being polite doesn’t hurt. A handful of Karens may give the fairer sex a bad name but women are usually more polite than men.
Step 4: Maintain a lean physique
The stereotypical femboy is slim but this goal isn’t a realistically achievable one for everyone. We suggest that you work with what you have. If you still insist on slimming down, then a good diet and exercise will get you there in a year or two. Such a regimen will come with other health benefits.
How to get femboy hair
Femboys typically have long hair, just like women. Getting it requires some patience. You’ll need to grow it out. This can take up to a year and maybe even longer. Once it’s grown out you can style it a million different ways and have fun. If your hair is growing too slowly for your taste, you can always throw on a wig.
Do you need surgery to become a femboy?
No. A femboy is a biological male who dresses and acts feminine. You don’t need to undergo surgery and transform yourself into a woman. In fact, you shouldn’t undergo any surgery to change your appearance unless you’re absolutely certain you won’t regret it a few months or years down the line. In addition to being expensive, such medical procedures are rarely reversible.
